The 6th general conference of the committee for solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics (CSVC) in the Southern province of Hau Giang was successfully held on September 20.
Distinguished at the event included Priest Peter Phan Đình Sơn, who is Vice Chairman of the Central CSVC cum Chairman of the CSVC in Can Tho City, and Secretary of Hau Giang provincial Party Committee Lữ Văn Hùng.
The one-day conference elected 63 members to the CSVC of Hau Giang for the 2018-2023 tenure headed by Đỗ Văn Qưới.
According to the conference report, Hau Giang is currently home to over 35,000 Catholic followers with 33 priests and 27 churches and chapels. For the past five years, Catholic believers in the province have helped building 300 charitable houses and donated 50 tons of rice to the poor in Catholic residential areas.
During the event, Hau Giang provincial authorities presented certificates of recommendation to five Catholic groups and 13 Catholic individuals for their outstanding contributions to socio-economic development in the locality.
