Catholic solidarity committee in Hanoi convenes 7th conference on Catholic contributions to national construction and defense

The Committee for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics (CSVC) in Hanoi city held on December 11-12 the 7th conference on national construction and defense by Catholics.
The event saw the participation of Priest Acting President cum General Secretary of the CSVC Joseph Trần Xuân Mạnh, Priest Chairman of the CSVC in Hanoi Antonio Dương Phú Oanh, and about 352 delegates representing 193,000 Catholic followers from 53 parishes and 400 congregations of three dioceses of Hanoi, Hung Hoa and Bac Ninh.
Distinguished guests at the event included Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Ngô Sách Thực, Vice Chairman of the city People’s Committee Nguyễn Văn Sửu, representatives from other religious organizations of Buddhism, Caodaism, Protestantism, etc and the municipal authorities.
The two-day conference discussed results of the patriotic movement and the solidarity committee’s activities during the 6th term (2012-2017), as well as elected 88 members to the CSVC in the city for the 2017 – 2022 tenure with Priest Antonio Dương Phú Oanh reselected as the Committee Chairman.
As reported at the event, Catholic followers in the city have proactively engaged in social movements launched by local authorities and contributed nearly VND 10 billion to charity activities over the past five years.
On the occasion, local authorities presented certificates of merit to 10 Catholic groups and 11 individuals for their outstanding contributions in the patriotic movements over the past five years.
