Catholic solidarity committee in Ba Ria – Vung Tau holds 6th general conference

The 6th general conference of the committee for solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics (CSVC) in Ba Ria – Vung Tau province was successfully convened on September 14.  

The event saw the participation of Priest Acting Chairman cum General Secretary of the national CSVC Joseph Trần Xuân Mạnh, Priest Chairman of the provincial CSVC for the 5th tenure Jean Baptiste Trần Văn Cử, representatives from Ba Ria diocese’s parishes and communities, and over 200 Catholic delegates in the province.

Local guests at the event included Secretary of provincial Party Committee cum Chairman of the provincial People’s Council Nguyễn Hồng Lĩnh and Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF)’s committee in the province Bùi Thanh Nghĩa.

According to the conference report, Ba Ria diocese currently has 85 parishes and communities and 93 religious orders with over 268,000 members, accounting for 28% of the province's population.

The general conference elected 61 members to the CSVC in the province for the 6th term (2018-2023) and Priest Joseph Nguyễn Văn Lượng elected as the new-term committee chairman.

On the occasion, the CSVC in the province presented certificates of recommendation to several Catholic groups and individuals for their outstanding contributions to patriotic movements launched in the locality over the past five years.
