The Board for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics in Tra Vinh province’s Chau Thanh district city held its 3rd congress of the Catholics for national construction and defense on March 16.

Present at the event included Vice Chairman of the Committee for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics in the province Lê Hữu Long, Chairwoman of the district People’s Committee Thạch Thị Sa Thy, Priest Vice Chairman of the Committee for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics in the province cum Head of Phuoc Hao Catholic parish Peter Ngô Văn Be, and large numbers of priests, clergywomen, clergymen and lay Catholics in the district.
As reported at the event, Chau Thanh has six churches, six priests, six sisters and 8,762 Catholics (including 45 parishioners who are Khmer people). For the past five years, Catholic followers in the district have proactively engaged in movements launched by local authorities for socio-economic development in the locality.
In addition, local Catholics have donated notebooks and bicycles worth 400 million VND to pupils, presented 3,602 sets of supports to poor people and lonely elders, 52 wells and two charity houses, and donated 432 million VND for repairing roads, bridges and light systems in the district.
The congress selected 15 members to the Catholic Solidarity Board in the district for the 2022 – 2027 tenure with Priest Peter Ngô Văn Be, Head of Phuoc Hao parish elected as the Head of the Board.
