Catholic Diocese of My Tho hosts traditional New Year meeting with local authorities

A meeting between the Catholic Diocese of My Tho and local state authorities held on occasion the lunar New Year 2017 took place on February 10 in Tien Giang province’s My Tho city.

Attending the meeting included Bishop of My Tho Diocese Peter Nguyễn Văn Khảm, Priest Vicar General of the diocese cum Vice Chairman of the Committee for Solidarity of Catholics in Tien Giang province Paul Trần Chí Thanh, priests representing the Diocese Office and the Catholic solidarity committee in provinces of Long An and Dong Thap, and representatives of provincial governments of the three provinces encompassing My Tho Diocese of Tien Giang, Long An and Dong Thap.

During the meeting, Bishop Peter Nguyễn Văn Khảm took the chance to thank local authorities in the three provinces for their support and favorable conditions extended to pastoral activities of the diocese over the past year and stated that the Catholic diocese, together with the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Vietnam, would keep guiding religious practices of Vietnamese Catholics in accordance with state laws. The bishop also expressed hope to further strengthen cordial relations with state authorities through meetings and exchanges.
