The Committee for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics (CSVC) in Ha Tinh province’s Can Loc district successfully held the 8th conference on national construction and defense by local Catholics on November 30.
Local guests at the event included Vice Chairman of the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Bùi Nhân Sâm, Chairman of the district People’s Council Đặng Trần Phong and Vice Chairman of the district People’s Committee Bùi Huy Cường.
The one-day congress discussed results of the patriotic movement and the solidarity committee’s activities during the 7th term (2012-2017), as well as outlined plans of activities in the next term.
As reported at the event, Catholic followers in the province have proactively engaged in social movements launched by local authorities.
The event also elected 16 members to the CSVC in the district for the 2017 – 2022 tenure and 12 delegates who will attend the general conference of the provincial CSCV in the coming time.
Addressing at the event, Vice Chairman Bùi Huy Cường spoke highly of practical contributions made by the district CSVC over the past term as well as stressed the CSVC’s role in encouraging Catholic followers to proactively participate in social movements, contributing to the socio-economic development in the locality.
Can Loc district currently has nine Catholic parishes and 22 congregations.
