Ca Mau province: Buddhist chapter in Thoi Binh district convenes general conference

On December 25, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Chapter in Ca Mau province’s Thoi Binh district solemnly held its general conference at Phuoc Linh Pagoda in the district.

Attending the event included 150 delegates who are monks, nuns and followers representing Buddhists in the district.

Representatives from the provincial Committee for Religious Affairs were amongst local guests at the event’s opening ceremony.

The general meeting reviewed results of Buddhists’ religious and social activities in the district in the past years. As reported, in addition to good results recorded in Buddhist affairs and implementation of movements launched by local authorities, Buddhist dignitaries and followers in the district have contributed nearly VND 40 billion to social and charitable activities.

On the occasion, the provincial VBS’s Executive Committee presented certificates of merit to three individuals, and the local authorities also handed over certificates of merit to four groups and individuals for their outstanding contributions to Buddhist affairs and socio-economic development in the localities.

Thoi Binh, a northeastern district of Ca Mau Province, is home to 15,000 Buddhists with 10 Buddhist places of worship belonging to Mahayana Buddhist and  Khmer Theravada Buddhism.

The general conference elected 15 members to the Buddhist Executive Board ịn the district for the 2016-2021 tenure with Venerable Thích Minh Chánh as Head of the Board.
