The International Day for Biological Diversity 2022 themed “Building a shared future for all life” will be held on May 22, with the aim of together building a shared future, applying nature-based solutions to global problems of climate, food security, towards the global goal by 2050 "Live in harmony with nature”.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has issued Official Letter No. 2442/BTNMT-TTTT on organizing activities to respond to the International Day of Biodiversity 2022, responding to as well as enhancing conservation and promotion of values biodiversity across the country.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment urges agencies and units to further propaganda on roles of biodiversity; economic models for sustainable use of natural resources and biodiversity conservation; participation of community in conservation, restoration and sustainable use of biodiversity, natural heritages and not using products derived from wildlife and single-use plastics, etc.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment also requests the synchronous implementation of tasks relating to conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity in accordance with the Law on Environment Protection 2020, Decree 08/ND-CP detailing a number of articles of the Law on Environmental Protection, and Decision No. 149/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister approving national biodiversity strategy to 2030, vision to 2050.

According to the 2021 report of the World Wide Fund for Nature in Viet Nam and the Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Agency, Vietnam is one of the world's 16 most biologically diverse countries, with over 50,000 species, including 20,000 plants, 10,500 terrestrial animals, 2,000 invertebrates and freshwater fish, and over 11,000 marine species.
