Phu My town’s Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Committee in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province held a ceremony on Oct. 14 to launch the movement of building the pilot model “Self-managed residential areas protect environment and respond to climate change” for the 2015-2020 period.
The event took place in Van Phat Quang Dai Tong Lam Pagoda in the province’s Tan Thanh district and attended by local authorities’ representatives and nearly 300 local religious believers and residents in Phu My town’s Tan Phu Ward.
Tan Phu Ward is home to over 3,000 people with about 53% of the local population are followers of Buddhism, 25 Buddhist temples and Van Phat Quang Dai Tong Lam Pagoda also is the headquarters of the provincial Buddhist Chapter.
During the event, Venerable Deputy Secretary of Ba Ria – Vung Tau provincial Vietnam Buddhist Sangha’s Executive Committee Thích Nguyên Thái and representatives of local communities in Tan Phu Ward signed a commitment on environmental protection and climate change adaptation for 2015-2020 period.
