The three-month summer retreat for Buddhist monks and nuns in Vietnam’s Central province of Ha Tinh in 2020 (B.E. 2564) was formally started at a solemn ceremony held on July 12.
Present at the ceremony included Most Venerable Thích Thanh Nhiễu, Most Venerable Thích Hiển Pháp and Most Venerable Thích Bảo Nghiêm, Vice Presidents of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha’s Central Executive Committee; Chairman of the Provincial Committee for Religious Affairs of Ha Tinh Phan Quốc Khánh; representatives of local authorities and; monks and nuns joining this year’s summer retreat.
As reported at the event, this is the 11th Buddhist retreat held in Ha Tinh, taking place at three venues and with the participation of 95 monks and nuns, and the summer retreat has been part of important and annual Buddhist affairs in Ha Tinh.
According to the Buddhist tradition, the summer retreat is often held for three months of the rainy season. During the annual summer retreat, Buddhist monks and nuns gather at pagodas for Buddhist studies and practice together for spiritual enlightenment and development of the Buddhist Sangha.
