Buddhist sangha in Quang Binh convenes 4th congress

The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s chapter in Quang Binh province successfully held on April 17 its 4th congress (2022-2027 tenure).

At the event

The event taking place at Dai Giac pagoda located in Dong Hoi City saw the presence of Most Venerable Thích Thanh Nhiễu, Standing Vice President of the VBS’s Central Executive Council; Senior Venerable Thích Đức Thiện, Vice President cum General Secretary of the VBS’s executive council; Most Venerable Thích Thanh Điện, Deputy General Secretary of the VBS’s executive council cum Chief of the VBS’s Central Office in Hanoi, and monks, nuns and other outstanding Buddhists in Quang Binh province.

Guests at the event included Vice Director of the Buddhist Affairs Department under the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Đào Huy Cường, Chairman of the Religious Affairs Committee under the Vietnam Central Fatherland Front Committee Nguyễn Văn Thanh, Deputy Secretary of Quang Binh provincial Party’s Committee Trần Hải Châu, and Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Hồ An Phong.

The one-day event reviewed religious affairs of the VBS in Quang Binh in the 2017-2022 tenure and mapped out key plans for the 2022-2027 term.

As reported, the VBS chapter in Quang Binh has spent over 70 billion VND on social charities including the construction of 21 charity houses for disadvantaged locals, and scholarships for pupils from poor families.

The event also elected a new 38-member executive committee with Most Venerable Thích Tánh Nhiếp re-elected as Head of the VBS executive committee in the province for 4th term.

On the occasion, the VBS executive committee in the province and six Buddhist individuals were presented with certificates of merit by the Central VBS, and the provincial VBS executive committee was also presented with a certificate of recommendation by the provincial People’s Committee.

The VBS chapter in Quang Binh was established in 2009 and currently has 13 pagodas with 29 monks and three nuns.
