The Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Chapter in Ben Tre has issued a notification to its subordinate board in districts and pagodas in the province regarding the keeping of ashes and worshipping photos of the dead.
The note signed on September 4 by Most Venerable Thích Lệ Linh, Vice Chairman the VBS executive asked local pagodas to solemnly and properly place and keep worshiping ashes and photos of the death.
Specifically, ashes to be kept at the pagodas have to be marked and filed with clear signs and necessary information in order to avoid confusion; worshipping photos have also to be in the same size and orderly placed, so living relatives of the death can easily find.
Local pagodas are also requested to assign personnel to take charge of keeping worshipping ashes and photos, and considerately receive and guide relatives of the death when they wish to visit and worship.
The VBS notification also asked the district-level executive board in Ben Tre to set up delegations to early conduct survey and investigation of the keeping of worshipping ashes and photos of the death.
