Buddhist sangha in Bac Lieu convenes 6th congress

The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s chapter in Bac Lieu province successfully held on May 5 its 6th congress (2022-2027 tenure).

At the event

The event saw the presence of Most Venerable Lý Sa Mouth and Most Venerable Hữu Hinh, Members of the VBS’s Central Discernment Council; Most Venerable Thích Thiện Nhơn, President of the VBS’s Central Executive Council; Most Venerable Thích Thiện Pháp, Standing Vice President of the VBS’s Central Executive Council; Most Venerable Đào Như and Most Venerable Thích Thiện Thống, Vice Presidents of the VBS’s Central Executive Council; Most Venerable Thích Giác Giàu, Chairman of the VBS’s Executive Committee in Bac Lieu, and  about 150 outstanding monks, nuns and lay Buddhists in the province.

Guests at the event included Standing Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party’s Committee Lê Thị Ái Nam, Chairman of the provincial Commission for Mass Mobilization cum Chairman of the provincial Fatherland Front Committee Nguyễn Văn Hòa, and Standing Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Lê Tấn Cận.

The one-day congress outlined the working program for the 6th term and elected a new 61-member executive committee of the VBS chapter in the province. Senior Venerable Thích Giác Nghi, Standing Vice Chairman of the provincial VBS executive committee in the 5th tenure was elected as Head of the provincial VBS executive committee for the 6th term.

As reported, in the last five years, the VBS chapter in Bac Lieu has spent over 186 billion VND on social charities supporting disadvantaged people in the locality.

In addition, the provincial VBS chapter also held many charity visits to people severely affected by natural disasters and flood-hits in the central provinces of Quang Tri, Thua Thien - Hue, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, etc., and donated about 13 billion VND to the Covid-19 prevention work in the province.

New VBS executive committee in Bac Lieu for 6th term makes its debut at the event

During the event, the provincial VBS executive committee was presented with a certificate of merit by the Central VBS. Four Buddhist groups and 12 individuals were presented with certificates of recommendation by the provincial People’s Committee for their outstanding contributions to VBS affairs and socio-economic development in the province in 2017-2022 term.

On the same day, the VBS executive committee in Bac Lieu also held a ceremony for formally inaugurating the Buddhist Intermediate School built on an area of 7600m2 within Long Phuoc pagoda located in Bac Lieu City’s Ward 5.
