Buddhist requiem held for heroic martyrs in Ha Giang

The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) in collaboration with the People’s Committee in An Giang held on July 9 a requiem for martyrs who laid down their lives for the Homeland.

At the ceremony

The event taking place at Vi Xuyen National Martyrs’ Cemetery saw the presence of Venerable Chairman of the provincial VBS’s executive committee Thích Nguyên Toàn, members of the provincial VBS’s executive committee, abbots of pagodas and large numbers of Buddhists and locals from Ha Giang and neighboring provinces.

Distinguished at the event included Former State President Trương Tấn Sang, Former Chairwoman of the Party’s Committee Commission for Mass Mobilization Hà Thị Khiết, Secretary of the Party’s Committee in Ha Giang province Đặng Quốc Khánh and Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyễn Văn Sơn.

Offering incense to soldiers who sacrificed their lives for national independence and liberation

On this occasion, the VBS’s Executive Committee in Ha Giang province and sponsors presented solidarity houses and packages of support to disadvantaged households.

The Vi Xuyen National Martyrs’ Cemetery has 1,853 graves of soldiers and a collective grave of martyrs who have laid down their lives in the fighting to protect the Homeland.

The event was part of the “Sacred Vi Xuyen” program, commemorating the 75th anniversary of Wounded and Fallen Soldiers' Day (1947-2022) and 43rd anniversary of battles to defend the country’s northern border line.
