Buddhist pagoda in Can Tho sends supports to disadvantaged people

Venerable Chief Secretary of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha’s Executive Board in Can Tho city’s Binh Thuy district cum Abbot of Van Linh pagoda Thích Huệ Minh has organized many programs for sending vegetables to disadvantaged people in the locality.  

As reported, when the district imposed with social distancing measures under the Directive 16 of the Prime Minister, Venerable Thích Huệ Minh has organized many charitable programs for supporting disadvantaged people. The venerable has called on lay Buddhists and philanthropists to buy agricultural products from neighboring provinces and send them to disadvantaged people, the poor and near-poor households in Binh Thuy ward.

Over the past two months, Venerable Thích Huệ Minh has mobilized resources from lay Buddhists and sponsors for presenting over 24 tons of rice, 1,150 noodles boxes, 65 tons of agricultural products and other necessities to disadvantaged people, poor and near-poor families and over 1,000 households living in rented houses in Binh Thuy ward. The total value of charitable programs was worth nearly 1.2 billion VND.

In addition, the pagoda monthly sends free meals to hospitals and supports to 30 disadvantaged households in the locality.

According to Head of the Vietnam Fatherland Front in Binh Thuy Ward Trần Thị Thu, Binh Thuy ward currently has nine religious organizations with 1,168 members. Over the past time, Venerable Thích Huệ Minh and local religious organizations have closely collaborated with local authorities in the Covid-19 prevention and charities work. Since the pandemic outbreak, any given resources raised from religious followers and other philanthropists, local religious organizations have sent 23,702 sets of supplies, valued at over 2.5 billion VND in total, to disadvantaged families in the locality.
