Du Khanh pagoda under the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha located in Tien Giang province’s Go Cong district is currently administered by Senior Venerable Abbot Thích Như Trang and has 500 lay Buddhists.
From February to May this year, Senior Venerable Thích Như Trang has successfully raised funds and support from Buddhists and philanthropists for presenting 500 gift sets containing noodles and rice, 10 million cubic meters of fresh water, 120 empty water tanks, 3,500 water bottles, 30,000 facemarks and 1,200 hand sanitizers, valued at over one billion VND in total, to disadvantaged people facing the Covid-19 pandemic and drought and saltwater intrusion in the locality.
The senior venerable has also mobilized resources from sponsors for starting on May 15 the construction of a local bridge with the total investment of 200 VND million in Long Hung commune in the district. The bridge is expected to be completed after three months of construction.
Responding the World Environment Day, the senior venerable has called on young monks and lay Buddhists and young monks to actively collect used facemarks and garbage along local streets and canals for protecting the environment in the locality.
