The Buddhist Institute in Ho Chi Minh City under the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) solemnly held on October 25 a ceremony for granting graduation certificates and opening the new school year.
The event taking place at the institute’s second branch located in Binh Chanh district’s Le Minh Xuan commune saw the presence of Most Venerable Thích Thiện Nhơn, President of the VBS’s Central Executive Council; Most Venerable Thích Trí Quảng, Deputy Patriarch of the VBS cum Director of the Buddhist Institute, representatives from local authorities, and dignitaries from the Central VBS and the Buddhist institute.
As reported at the ceremony, the Buddhist school has been training monks and nuns from 40 provinces and cities of the country in nine faculties including Pāli, Sanskrit Buddhism, Buddhist Philosophy, Dharma Teaching, Vietnamese Buddhism, Buddhist History, Buddhist Social Affairs, and Buddhist Dharma in foreign languages of English and Chinese.

This year, the institute has 866 monks and nuns graduated at bachelor (12th course) and master (2nd course) degrees, 1511 students studying at bachelor (13th and 14th courses) and master (3rd course), and 554 new enrollers for the new school year (15th bachelor course).
During the event, upon an appeal by Most Venerable Thích Trí Quảng, Director of the Buddhist Institution, monks, nuns and guests made a donation of over three billion VND for helping people badly affected in flooding areas in the central region.
