Buddhist Institute in HCMC holds graduating ceremony, starts construction work for worshipping hall

The Vietnam Buddhist Institute in Ho Chi Minh City held on October 17 a groundbreaking ceremony for its main worshipping hall and presented bachelor degree certificates to graduating students of the 2015 – 2018 course in Ho Chi Minh city.  

The event drew the participation of Most Venerable Deputy Patriarch of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Discernment Council cum Rector of the Vietnam Buddhist Institute Thích Trí Quảng, Most Venerable President of the VBS Executive Council Thích Thiện Nhơn, dignitaries from the VBS Central executive council and executive committees from several provinces and cities, and large numbers of Buddhist monks and nuns studying at the Buddhist Institute.

Distinguished guests at the event included Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Trần Tấn Hùng, Rector of Hanoi National University cum Director of Tran Nhan Tong Institute Nguyễn Kim Sơn, and representatives from concerning central agencies and the municipal authorities in HCMC.

Addressing at the event, while extending congratulatory greetings to 336 graduating monks and nuns of the Buddhist Institute, Vice Chairman Trần Tấn Hùng hailed the institute for its training achievements and contributions to the development of Buddhism in the country.

On the occasion, Buddhists and sponsors have contributed to VND 40 billion to the construction of the new worshiping hall. 

The Vietnam Buddhist Institute in HCMC currently has 118 teachers and 11 faculties with over 5,900 monks, nuns and Buddhists. The institute also offered 100% free of charge for all boarding students including tuition, accommodations and other expenses.
