Buddhist groups send relief to flooded areas

For the past few days several Buddhist groups across the country have sent relief to people seriously affected by flood in provinces of South Central of Vietnam.

The Social-Charitable Board of the Enlightenment Magazine has visited and handed 1,500 relief packets to people in provinces of Binh Dinh and Phu Yen, each packet includes a box of noodle and VND 400,000 in cash.

On December 10, a delegation from the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s branch in Khanh Hoa province led by Senior Venerable Vice Chairman of the Committee Thích Giác Không visited Phu Yen province’s Tuy An district and handed over to locals 120 gift pacts, each gift pack contains 10 kg of rice, one kg of sugar, one litter of cooking oil, one jacket and VND 300,000 in cash.

Poor locals receive relief support

In addition, Tam Thanh pagoda in Dong Thap province’s Tam Nong district, and Buddhists and sponsors in Ho Chi Minh City have contributed VND 70 million in building four charity houses, which were formally handed over to poor families in the province on December 11. On the occasion, Tam Thanh pagoda also presented each family a gift pack valued at nearly one million VND.

On December 10, Chi Linh pagoda in Nghe An province in collaboration with Son Thang monastery in Vinh Long province led by Senior Venerable Thích Trí  Hải presented 200 gift packs to poor people from communes of Dai Thanh, My Thanh and Yen Thanh in Nghe An province’s Yen Thanh district, each gift pact includes a blanket and some cash, valued at VND 600,000. Earlier, Son Thang monastery handed over 600 gift packs to people in Quang Binh province’s Minh Hoa district and Ha Tinh province’s Vu Quang district, worth over VND 560 million in total.
