Buddhist Church in Ca Mau province’s Dam Doi district holds general conference

The 2nd congress of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s chapter in Ca Mau province’s Dam Doi district took place on December 17 at the chapter’s office.

Attending the event included 120 Buddhists delegates from temples and monasteries in the district. Representatives from the provincial VBS’s Executive Committee and local authorities also joint the opening ceremony of the event.

According to a congress report, during the first tenure (2011-2016), monks, nuns and Buddhist followers in the district contributed approximately VND 10 billion to social charities and actively partook in social movements and programs launched by local authorities for socio-economic development in the locality.

During the event, local authorities in the district and the provincial VBS’s executive committee presented certificates of merits to three Buddhist groups and six Buddhist individuals for their typical contributions to social development in the locality.

Dam Doi district is currently home to 3,500 followers of Buddhism with three worshipping temples and 16 monks and nuns.
