Buddhist Church in Ba Ria - Vung Tau’s Long Dien district holds general conference

The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Chapter in Ba Ria- Vung Tau province’s Long Dien district held its 2nd congress on Sept. 11.

Attending the event were Most Venerable Chairman of the provincial VBS’s Executive Committee Thích Quảng Hiền, representatives from VBS’s executive boards of the province’s districts, and over 400 Buddhist delegates in Long Dien district.

The one-day congress elected 25 members to the new-term VBS Executive Board in Long Dien district for 2016-2021 tenure with Venerable Thích Minh Thành (Abbot of Thien Quang pagoda) as Chairman of the Board. 

It’s reported that Long Dien district is home to over 37,000 Buddhist followers, with 224 Buddhist monks and nuns, and 51 Buddhist worshipping establishments belonging to Mahayana tradition (45) and Mendicant school (6).

As reported at the event, for the past tenure, Buddhist dignitaries and followers in the district have contributed over VND 22 billion to social and charitable activities, including the construction of nine charitable houses for poor households in the district.

On the occasion, Ba Ria-Vung Tau provincial VBS’s Executive Committee presented a certificate of merit to the district VBS Chapter for their outstanding achievements in the 2011-2016 tenure. Long Dien district People’s Committee also handed over certificates of merit to seven groups and 13 individuals for their contributions in the implementation of patriotic emulation movements in the locality.
