The executive committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) chapter in Tien Giang province reviewed its performance 2018 and set out working plans for 2019 at a meeting held on January 17 in Vinh Trang pagoda located in My Tho city.
The event saw the participation of Most Venerable Chairman of the VBS’s executive committee Thích Huệ Minh, members of the provincial VBS’s executive committee and representatives from 11 distric-level executive boards in the province.
Local guests at the event included Vice Chairman of the provincial Committee for Religious Affairs Trần Văn Khuê and representatives from the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee (VFF) and local authorities of My Tho city.
As reported at the meeting, in 2018, Buddhist dignitaries and followers in the province have recorded good results in Buddhist affairs including the successful organization of Vesak Day, the summer retreat course for 418 monks and nuns, the appointment of 8 abbots, the establishment of three Buddhist temples, the organization of 838 preaching meeting with the participation of over 94,000 followers, circulating 700 Buddhist articles in websites, etc.
They also actively participated in local movements for building charity houses, supporting poor people, donating wheelchairs to people with disabilities, presenting scholarships to poor and excellent students, etc with the total contribution of over 62 billion VND.
On the occasion, the VBS’s Chapter in the province presented certificates of merit to 3 Buddhist groups and 16 individuals for their outstanding contributions in Buddhist affairs over the past year.
