
The Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) chapter in Tien Giang province reviewed its performance 2016 and set working plans for 2017 at a meeting held in Vinh Trang pagoda of My Tho city on January 09.
Attending the meeting were Most Venerable Thích Huệ Minh, Member of the VBS Executive Council cum Chairman of the provincial VBS Executive Committee, and Buddhist dignitaries from the provincial VBS Executive Committee and the VBS executive board of districts in the province.
Local guests at the event included Chairwoman of the provincial Committee for Religious Affairs Bùi Thị Mai and representatives from local authorities of Tien Giang province and My Tho city.
As reported at the meeting, in the past years, Buddhist dignitaries and followers in the province actively participated in local movements for building charity houses, supporting poor people, donating wheelchairs to people with disabilities, presenting scholarships to poor and excellent students, etc, with the total contribution of over 45.2 billion VND.
Speaking at the conference, Chairwoman of the provincial Committee for Religious Affairs Bùi Thị Mai extended congratulations to the Buddhist executive committee and praised local Buddhist dignitaries and followers for their contributions to the socio-economic development in the locality in the past year.
On this occasion, the provincial Buddhist Executive Committee presented certificates of merit to 18 Buddhist groups and 18 Buddhist followers for outstanding achievements in Buddhist affairs in 2016.
Concluding the meeting, Most Venerable Thích Huệ Minh took the chance to call on local Buddhists and sponsors to give support to poor people on the occasion of the upcoming traditional Lunar New Year.
