Buddhist chapter in Ha Tinh holds 3rd congress

The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Chapter in Ha Tinh province convened on September 24 the 3rd congress (the 2017-2022 tenure) at Pho Do Pagoda located in the province. 

Participating in the congress were Most Venerable Member of the VBS’s Discernment Council Thích Thanh Đàm, Most Venerable President of the VBS’s Executive Council Thích Thiện Nhơn, Most Venerable Vice President of the VBS’s Executive Council cum Head of the VBS Chapter’s Executive Committee in Ha Tinh province Thích Bảo Nghiêm, and large numbers of monks, nuns and followers in the province.

Distinguished guests at the event included Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Vũ Chiến Thắng and Vice Chairman of Ha Tinh provincial People’s Committee Đặng Quốc Vinh.

As reported at the event, Buddhist monks, nuns and followers in the province contributed a total value of over VND 55 billion to social charities over the past five years.

The congress elected 30 Buddhist dignitaries to the Executive Committee of the VBS’s Chapter in Ha Tinh for the 2017-2022 term, in which Most Venerable Thích Bảo Nghiêm was continuously selected as head of the committee.

On the occasion, the Central VBS’s Executive Council and the provincial People’s Committee presented certificates of merit to Buddhist groups and individuals for their outstanding contributions in Buddhist affairs and social charities during the 2012-2017 tenure.
