On June 6, a delegation of Binh Thuan provincial authorities paid a visit to the Islamic Cham community in the province on occasion of the Ramuwan festival 2017.
The delegation was led by Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Dương Văn An, and attended by representatives of the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and concerning authorities.
At visit meetings, while extending congratulatory greetings to dignitaries and followers of the Cham Islamic community on occasion of their traditional festival, the provincial government’s representative praised them for their contributions to national unity and socio-economic development in the locality. He also asked the Muslim dignitaries to promote their role for encouraging followers to further uphold fine traditions for poverty reduction, hunger eradication and rural development in the province.
Binh Thuan province is home to over 41,000 Cham people, with more than 15,000 Islamic followers.
The Ramuwan festival is the traditional New Year of the Islamic Cham community and during the festival people often gathers together for expressing tribute to their ancestors and praying for happiness, bumper crops and peace.
