On July 14, Thanh Phu district Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Executive Board in Ben Tre province held the Buddhist congress for 2016-2021 tenure at Phuoc Khanh Pagoda in the district.
The event saw participation of Most Venerable Chairman of Ben Tre provincial VBS Executive Committee Thích Nhật Tấn, Buddhist dignitaries, monks, nuns from the district’s pagodas and monasteries, and a large number of followers in the locality.
Representatives of the provincial Committee for Religious Affairs, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, and local authorities also joint the event.
According to the congress’s report, for the last five years, Buddhist dignitaries and followers in the district have contributed 19 billion VND to social and charitable activities, including construction of bridges and charitable houses, presentation of gifts to the poor, the elderly and scholarships to poor pupils, organization of health checks and distribution of free medicines.
The congress also elected 11 members of the new-term VBS Executive Board of Thanh Phu district for 2016-2021 tenure with Venerable Thích Thiện Hạnh as the Head of the Board.
On the occasion, Thanh Phu district People’s Committee presented certificates of merit to five groups and eight individuals for their outstanding achievements in the 2012-2016 tenure.
The provincial VBS Executive Committee also handed over certificates of citation merit to groups and individuals for social and charitable contributions in the last tenure.
