Ben Tre province: Mo Cay Bac district VBS holds Buddhist congress

The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) chapter in Ben Tre province’s Mo Cay Bac district held on June 13 the general congress for 2016-2021 tenure at Long Phu pagoda.

Attending the congress included Venerable Chairman of the provincial VBS Executive Committee Thích Nhựt Tấn, monks, nuns from pagodas and followers in the district.

Local guests at the event included Vice Chairman of the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Dương Quốc Hưng and Vice Chairman of Mo Cay Bac district People’s Committee Phạm Thanh Truyền.

The congress reviewed results of Buddhist affairs in the previous five years and mapped out the working plan for the 2016-2021 tenure. As reported at the congress, in addition to good results recorded in Buddhist affairs, Buddhist dignitaries and followers in the district have proactively participated in local movements and contributed over 13 billion VND in social, charitable activities.

The one-day congress also elected 13 members to the new-term Executive Board of the district VBS with Venerable Thích Minh Phong as the Board Chairman.

Speaking at the congress, Vice Chairman Phạm Thanh Truyền spoke highly of achievements recorded by the district VBS Executive Board in the past term and urged Buddhist dignitaries and followers to promote fine traditions of the religion, contributing to socio-economic development in the locality.

On this occasion, the provincial VBS Executive Committee also presented certificates of merit to Buddhist groups and individuals for their outstanding achievements in Buddhist affairs in the 2012-2016 term.
