Ben Tre province: Committee for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics reviews six-month activities

The Committee for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics in Ben Tre province held a conference on July 12 to review its performance in the first six months of 2016 and approve key tasks for the last six months.

The conference saw the participation of Priest Chairman of the Committee Khổng Đức Ý, Vice Chairmen of the Committee, and 75 delegates representing the district-level Committee for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics in the province. Representatives from the provincial Committee for Religious Affairs, Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Committee also joint Catholics at the event.

According to the meeting report, under the Committee’s guidance and encouragement, local Catholics contributed over VND 3 billion to social, charitable activities, including provision of support to the poor, the elderly and orphans, construction of charity houses, and conducting of medical charities… So far, 80 out of 83 Catholic communities in Ben Tre province have received the title “cultural worshipping place”.

Speaking at the conference, Head of the VFF Committee’s Ethnic-Religion Board Võ Văn Hai spoke highly of achievements recorded by local Catholics and urged the Committee for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics in Ben Tre province to further promote its fine tradition and actively engage in the patriotic emulation movements for socio-economic development in the locality.
