Ba Ria – Vung Tau province pays tribute to war heroes, martyrs

Ba Ria – Vung Tau provincial Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Executive Committee held a solemn ceremony to pay tribute to war heroes, martyrs at Hang Duong cemetery in Con Dao island on July 26.

Most Venerable Vice Chairman of the VBS Central Executive Committee Thích Thiện Tánh, Most Venerable Thích Quảng Hiển, Head of the provincial VBS Executive Committee and hundreds of monks, nuns and followers attended the ceremony.

Vice State President Nguyễn Thị Doan, central agencies and local authorities, Con Dao former prisoners and sponsors also joint with Buddhists at the event.

Overview of the ceremony

Speaking at the ceremony, Most Venerable Thích Quang Hiển said that the ceremony was a chance for expressing gratitude to those people who sacrificed their youth and even their lives for the nation at Con Dao prison.

 The ceremony was held on occasion of the 68th War Invalids' and Martyrs' Day, reflecting Vietnam’s fine tradition of "drinking water, remember its source" by Buddhists in the locality.
