An Giang province: Cham people celebrate Ramadan festival

More than one billion Muslims around the world are marking the start of Ramadan festival (fasting month). Ramadan festival is particularly sacred to Muslims and a month of intense prayer for peace.

Ramadan began this year on June 18, and will continue until July 18. During the festival, Muslims around the world will perform fasting and prayers. On these days, Muslim followers have to nurture themselves, keep disciplines and abstain from food and drink during the daytime. 

An Giang province is home to 13,000 Cham people living in the four districts of Chau Thanh, Chau Phu, Phu Tan and An Phu and Tan Chau town. During the fasting month, people usually come back home and perform religious rituals. In Cham villages, all activities take place during the night (from sunset to 4.AM).

Vice Chairman of Nhon Hoi commune Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Salaymal said that Ramadan festival has sacred meanings for Muslim, helping people to understand the hard life of poor people. This is also an opportunity for all people, both boys and girls from 5 years and above review their past behaviors for realizing and correcting of misbehaviors.
