7th Khmer festival of culture, sports and tourism to be held in November

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in collaboration with Bac Liêu Provincial People’s Committee held on November 11 a press meeting on the 7th Khmer culture, sports and tourism festival in Vietnam South.

As reported at the press meeting, the 7th Khmer festival of culture, sports and tourism will be held in the Cửu Long (Mekong) Delta province of Bạc Liêu city on November 17-19 with the theme “Conservation and promotion of Southern Khmer ethnic culture for national sustainable development”.

The event is expected to draw 2,000 artists, actors, musicians, mass athletes of Khmer communities from 12 southern localities of An Giang, Bac Lieu, Binh Phuoc, Ca Mau, Hau Giang, Kien Giang, Soc Trang, Tay Ninh, Tra Vinh, Vinh Long provinces and Cần Thơ and Ho Chi Minh cities.

The festival will include various cultural and art activities, including public art performances, an exhibition on the traditions and culture of the Khmer community in the south, publications, traditional products and foods of Khmer people along with Mekong River Delta tourism promotion activities.

Several sports competitions including ghe Ngo (long boat) race, tug of war, soccer and volleyball will also be part of the festival.

According to the festival’s organizing board, the large-scale cultural event aims to preserve and promote the traditional culture of people in the South Vietnam, to strengthen solidarity as well as introduce Khmer cultural values to people in the country and international visitors.
