The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s executive committee in Quang Ninh province held on November 26 a grand ceremony marking the 711th anniversary of King - Monk Trần Nhân Tông entering nirvana (1308 – 2019)
The event taking place in Truc Lam-Yen Tu Cultural Centre in Uong Bi city saw the presence of the Most Venerable Deputy Patriarch of the Central VBS’s Discernment Council Thích Đức Nghiệp, Most Venerable President of the Central VBS’s Executive Council Thích Thiện Nhơn, members of the VBS’s executive committee in Quang Ninh, and heads of worshipping places in Northern provinces and cities.
Guests at the event included Chairman of the Committee for Religious Affairs in Quang Ninh Nguyễn Đăng Kiên.
King-Monk Trần Nhân Tông born in 1258 is the third emperor of the Trần dynasty who has led two victories against Mongol invasions. He also is the founder of the Truc Lam School of Zen and has worked to unify different Buddhist sects at the time.
