The Organizing Committee of Con Son - Kiep Bac Spring’s Traditional Festival 2022 in Hai Duong province solemnly held on February 16 a ceremony to commemorate the 688th death anniversary of Monk Huyền Quang, the Third Patriarch of Truc Lam Zen Buddhist Sect (1334 - 2022).

The event taking place at the Con Son - Kiep Bac Special National relic site located in Hai Duong province’s Chi Linh City saw the presence of Vice Chairman of the provincial Peoples’ Committee cum Head of the provincial Organizing Committee of Con Son - Kiep Bac Spring’s Traditional Festival 2022 Nguyễn Minh Hùng, Standing Vice Chairwoman of the provincial People’s Council Nguyễn Thị Ngọc Bích, representatives of concerning local agencies, and large numbers of locals and visitors.

Huyền Quang, whose real name is Lý Đạo Tái, was born in 1254 in Thai Bao commune of Bac Ninh province’s Gia Binh district. He was one of talented intellectuals under the Tran Dynasty.
Later, he followed Buddhism and became one of the first three patriarchs of the Truc Lam Zen Buddhist sect, together with King Monk Trần Nhân Tông and Monk Pháp Loa. At the end of his life, he stayed in Con Son pagoda located in Hai Duong and passed away in the 23rd day of the first lunar month in 1334.
The Con Son - Kiep Bac was listed as a national relic in 1962 and as a special national relic in 2012. The Con Son - Kiep Bac festival was also recognized by the Culture, Sport and Tourism Ministry as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2013.
