Religions support COVID-19 prevention

In response to a campaign calling for public support for the country’s fight against the Covid-19 epidemic by the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee, religious organizations in Vietnam have made practical contributions.  

The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) supported the setting up of five negative pressure rooms, worth 3.5 billion VND to the VFF Central Committee. Many pagodas in provinces and cities have also presented free facemask to local people and Buddhists.

On March 26, Priest Joseph Dương Hữu Tình, Head of Hai Duong parish and the parish’s pastoral board donated 50 million VND to the VFF Committee in Hai Duong province.

Earlier, Xuan Loc diocese donated 1 billion VND to VFF Central Committee and VFF Committee in Dong Nai province. Bishop Dominic Nguyễn Chu Trinh contributed 200 million VND to VFF Central Committee and 200 million VND to the Department of Health in Dong Nai province.

In particular, the Evangelical Church of Vietnam (North) and the Protestant community in Hanoi donated 138 million VND, 680 protective gears and 7,500 facemasks to medical clinics, worth 130 million VND. The Evangelical Church of Vietnam (South) presented 500 million VND to the VFF in Ho Chi Minh city.

The Vietnam Word of Life Church contributed 100 million VND, and E Xe Chi En congregation under the Vietnam United World Mission Church donated 30 million VND.

Earlier, the Vietnam Later-Day Saints of Jesus Christ Church has donated 50,000 facemasks, the Vietnam Mennonite Church presented 20,000 facemasks, the Vietnam Christian Fellowship Church supported 7,000 facemasks, and the Tai Sanh congregation in Ha Noi donated 2,000 facemasks.

Hoa Hoa Buddhist Church has donated 200 million VND, 200,000 facemasks and provided free meals at isolation areas in provinces. Many followers have also participated in blood donation programs.
