Buddhist dignitaries send supports to frontline forces fighting Covid-19 pandemic

Responding to a call of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Central Executive Council, Buddhist worshipping places in the country have launched many practical activities for supporting the frontline force fighting the Covid-19 epidemic.  

On August 4, a delegation of the VBS’s Executive Committee in Gia Lai province led by Venerable Thích Quảng Phước, Deputy Chairman of the VBS executive committee cum Head of the Dharma Preaching Board and Abbot of My Thach pagoda, visited and presented sets of supplies to quarantine centers located at the Truong Chinh High School and the Ethnic Boarding School in Chu Se district currently taking care of about 500 people.

During the visit, the delegation handed over 100 medical protective suits, 5,000 medical masks, and 30 bottles of hand sanitizer to quarantine centers.

In addition, Venerable Thích Quảng Phước also called on lay Buddhists and other sponsors to present 37 million VND in cash, 700 kg of rice, and other necessities, with the total value of 60 million VND.

On the same day, in Ben Tre province, Most Venerable Thích Nhựt Tấn, Standing Member of the VBS’s Central Executive Council cum Chairman of the VBS’s Executive Committee in Ben Tre province in collaboration with the provincial Fatherland Front Committee and the provincial Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control visited for sending supports to three field hospitals set up for the treatment of Covid-19 patients in the province, including Cu Lao Minh hospital located in Mo Cay Nam district, Tran Van An hospital located in Ben Tre city, and Ham Long hospital in Chau Thanh district.

During the visits, the charity delegation presented one ton of rice and 10 million VND in cash to each field hospital.

Earlier on August 3, Nun Thích nữ Nguyên Minh, Standing Deputy Head of the VBS’s Social Charity Board in Ninh Thuan province cum Abbess of Phuoc Minh pagoda located in the province’s Ham Thuan Nam district sent 30 tons of dragon fruits and vegetables to people affected by the imposed social distancing in Ho Chi Minh City.

To send food supporting people in Ho Chi Minh City, Nun Thích nữ Nguyên Minh organized two charity trips, one transporting more than 10 tons of dragon fruits and vegetables to workers of Thien Chi Industrial Garment Service Trading Company Limited located in Hoc Mon district and residents of Thanh Loc apartment building in District 12, and the other carrying 20 tons of dragon fruits to support people living in Binh Thanh district’s Binh Quoi ward and Go Vap district’s Ward 17.
