299 religious volunteers join Covid-19 prevention work in Ho Chi Minh City

299 volunteers from religious organizations attended a ceremony held on July 22 for start joining the prevention and control of the Covid-19 epidemic in Ho Chi Minh City.  

The event launched by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in Ho Chi Minh City saw the presence of Deputy Secretary of the municipal Party’ Committee Nguyễn Hồ Hải, Chairwoman of the municipal Fatherland Front Committee Tô Thị Bích Châu, and representatives from religious organizations of Catholicism, Buddhism and Protestantism in the city.

Speaking at the event, Vice Chairwoman Tô Thị Bích Châu took the chance to thank religious individuals, organizations, provinces and cities’ authorities and people in the country for donation of cash and necessities to Ho Chi Minh City over the past days.

She also called on all classes of the city's people and followers of religious organizations to register to serve the prevention and control of Covid-19 in hospitals and quarantine centers.

During the event, on behalf of religious volunteers, Senior Venerable Thích Trung Khai from Long Hoa pagoda located in District 10’s Ward 11 and Clergyman Joseph Lưu Thanh Tùng from Redemptorist Order in District 3’s Ward 9 expressed their determination to carry out assigned tasks, contributing to care for and protect the health of local people and control the Covid-19 pandemic.

After the ceremony, 299 religious volunteers of Catholicism, Buddhism and Protestantism were assigned to hospitals with 214 volunteers to the Covid-19 Intensive Care Hospital, 45 volunteers to Field Hospital No.10 for Covid-19 treatment, and 40 volunteers to Field Hospital No.12 for Covid-19 treatment.

All of 299 volunteers have attended a training course on medical knowledge and skills for serving Covid-19 patients, been vaccinated against Covid-19 and had a negative RT-PCR test result before joining the volunteer work.
