Zero-dong supermarket set up by Catholics for supporting the disadvantaged in Ho Chi Minh City

Responding to a call of Archbishop Joseph Nguyễn Chí Linh, President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Vietnam, for supporting to people in Ho Chi Minh City severely affected by the Covid-19 epidemic, a zero-VND mini supermarket has been launched by the Vietnam Catholic Church in order to support disadvantaged families, regardless of religion in the city.  

This zero-dong mini supermarket based at Phan Boi Chau School located in 35 Doc Lap Street of Tan Phu district’s Tan Thanh ward was opened on July 26, serving 200 disadvantaged locals.

For supporting the disadvantaged shopping at this market, the Catholic church’s charity program presented 1,000 vouchers, each valued up to 400,000 VND, to disadvantaged families, including poor and homeless people in Tan Phu district’s five wards of Tan Thanh, Hoa Thanh, Tan Quy, Tan Son Nhi and Phu Tho Hoa.

The mini supermarket is open from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., serving people in one ward each day, with the maximum of 200 vouchers. The charity program in Tan Phu district will last until July 30.

While shopping, locals have been required to strictly implement the 5K recommendation for the Covid-19 prevention.
