On April 15th, 2014 at Quan Su pagoda, a training workshop for volunteers of UN Vesak Day 2014 was held with 850 voluntary youth from several universities in Hanoi.
The first day of the training workshop for UN Vesak Day 2014 volunteers received the presence and guidance of Venerable Thích Quang Thạnh, Deputy Director Chairman cum Secretary of the VBS Committee for International Buddhist Affairs; Mr. Vũ Minh Lý, Director of the National Voluntary Center, as well as representatives and support from the VBS Central Committee for Buddhists’ Guidance and Central Communist Youth League. The training workshop has focused on information and meaning of Vesak Day, roles of volunteers and internal rules, with speeches delivered by Venerable Thích Quang Thạnh and Mr. Vũ Minh Lý. The workshop emphasized that UN Vesak Day is the religious cultural festival of the United Nations, yearly organized at UN headquarters and regional offices, with participation of Buddhist schools and traditions from 34 countries around the world. UN Vesak Day 2014 will be held in Vietnam for second time and expected to receive 800 delegation from 90-100 countries and territories in the world./.
