A whale worshiping festival (known as Cau Ngu in Vietnamese) took place on February 9 in Sam Linh Tay village, Nui Thanh district, Quang Nam province.
The festival featured a chain of activities such as whale worshiping rituals, prayers for peace, and other cultural and sports events such as a fish-net weaving contest, beach-football, tug-of-war and stick-pushing competitions, etc
The whale worshipping festival is the most important event of local fishermen. “Cau Ngu” festival worships sea gods and prays for bumper catches, as well as shows the tradition of “When drinking water, remember its source” and pays tribute to fore-sages and strengthens solidarity among fishermen.
