Vietnam Buddhist Sangha hosts blood donation program

The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) in collaboration with the Vietnam Red Cross Society and the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion organized a blood donation program at Quan Su pagoda on June 13.  

The program entitled “Blood donation Day for saving lives - taking Bodhisattva Path” was held in response to the call for humanitarian blood donation by General Secretary cum President Nguyễn Phú Trọng and the implementation of the coordination between the VBS and the Vietnam Red Cross Society.

The event saw the presence of dignitaries of the VBS, representatives of ministries and agencies, and about 300 volunteer monks, nuns and lay Buddhists.

The program collected more than 200 blood units to the national blood bank.

According to Senior Venerable Thích Đức Thiện, Vice President cum General Secretary of the VBS’s Executive Council, the VBS has launched not only blood but also organ donation programs for many years, with practical contributions from Buddhist dignitaries and followers.
