Vietnam Buddhist Sangha holds conference on Khmer Theravada Buddhism in Ca Mau

The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) in collaboration with the Khmer Theravada Buddhism held on October 20 the 8th conference on Khmer Theravada Buddhism in Ca Mau province.

The conference saw the presence of Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Trần Tấn Hùng, President of the VBS Executive Council Thích Thiện Nhơn and Vice Chairman of the Ca Mau provincial People’s Committee Thân Đức Hưởng.

The conference themed “The Integration and Development of Khmer Theravada Buddhism” aimed to review religious affairs related to the Buddhist sect over the past years.

Attending the event, Vice Chairman Trần Tấn Hùng highly appreciated results of the conferences on the Khmer Theravada Buddhism held since 2004.

As reported at event, under support of the GCRA and the central VBS over one million copies of Buddhist scriptures in Khmer language have been printed and 473 sets of Tripitaka have been distributed to the Khmer Theravada Buddhist pagodas. The construction of Khmer Theravada Buddhist Institute has been ongoing with 90% of worshiping and supporting facilities completed and the Buddhist institute has enrolled 3 bachelor courses with nearly 100 graduate students.

At the event, Most Venerable Thích Thiện Nhơn stressed the need to gather comments for practically contributing to improve the spiritual and material life of Khmer people. 

The conference on Khmer Theravada Buddhism is held every two years with the aim to support the development of the Khmer Theravada Buddhism./.
