The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) handed over 100 tons of rice to victims of the tropical storm Idai and Kennth in Mozambique, which devastated the African country’s central region in March and April this year, at a meeting held on November 26 in Maputo.
The event saw the presence of Director of the National Disaster Management Institute of Mozambique (INGC) Augusta Maita, Senior Venerable Thích Đồng Huệ, Member of the VBS’s Executive Council cum Head of the Vietnamese Buddhist association in Mozambique and Vietnamese Ambassador to Mozambique Lê Huy Hoàng.
During the ceremony, Senior Venerable Thích Đồng Huệ conveyed greetings from the VBS and concerning Vietnam agencies to Mozambique authorities and people, and expressed hope that they would soon overcome consequences of the storm.
Director Augusta Maita took the chance to thank the VBS and Vietnam government and people for their valuable spiritual and material support.
According to the INGC, the rainy season 2018 - 2019 in Mozambique has killed 714 people including 648 victims of the tornado Idai and Kenneth./.
