The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) held on April 24 a meeting on Buddhist affairs of its Buddhist Studies Institute in Ha Noi.
The meeting was chaired by Most Venerable Standing Vice President of the VBS's Executive Council Thích Thanh Nhiễu, Most Venerable Vice President of the VBS's Executive Council cum Head of the Buddhist institute Thích Gia Quang and Most Venerable Vice President of the VBS's Executive Council Thích Giác Toàn.
As reported at the meeting, one of nine key tasks of the VBS for the 2017 – 2022 tenure is to promote the studies and improve the academic quality of Buddhism. Accordingly, the Buddhist institute will focus on research, translation and publishing of Buddhist publications in a more systematic and professional way.
As planned, the institute will expand publications related to the history of Buddhism in India, Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Bhutan, etc, so as to meet the need of Buddhist studies by Buddhist schools, researchers, teachers and students as well as to promote Buddhist exchanges and friendship between Vietnam and Buddhist countries.
