The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Executive Council reviewed its performance in the first six months and mapped out plans for the last six months of 2017 at a conference held on July 4 at its Southern Office based in Quang Duc Monastery located in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC).
Attending the event included Most Venerable President of the VBS’s Executive Council Thích Thiện Nhơn and members of the Executive Council’s Standing Committee.
As reported at the event, in the first six months of 2017, the VBS’s Standing Executive Council achieved good results in Buddhist affairs, including the successful organizations of the Buddha’s Birthday Festival, the summer retreat course, and preparation for the 8th National Buddhist Congress expected to be held on November 19-22 in Hanoi with the participation of 1,500 official delegates.
The conference also approved a list of 65 most venerables, 204 venerables, 108 superior nuns and 423 nuns to be ordained at the upcoming Buddhist congress.
