VBS reviews Buddhist affairs 2016

A reviewing conference for Buddhist affairs in 2016 of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) was held from January 02-03 in Quang Duc Monastery in Ho Chi Minh City’s District.

Distinguished guests at the event included Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF)’s Central Committee Lê Bá Trình, Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Trần Tấn Hùng and Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City's VFF Committee Nguyễn Hoàng Năng.

The two-day conference reviewed and discussed the VBS’s performance in 2016 including organizational and administrative aspects of the Buddhist church, approval of the ordination list for the upcoming Buddhist congress, proposals for helping Khmer Theravada Buddhist sect to complete its Khmer Theravada Buddhist Institute in Can Tho city and  reports of research on heritage, architecture, costume and language by the VBS Central Committee for Cultural Affairs.

Key tasks for 2017 approved at the event included the organization of Buddhist congress for the VIII tenure (2017-2022) later this year.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice President Lê Bá Trình highly appreciated the VBS’s achievements in 2016. "This result shows fine perennial traditions of Buddhism in Vietnam. That is, always closely accompanying with the nation and contributing to build great national unity block", the Vice Chairman stressed.
