On March 7, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) had a working session at its office in Hanoi with a delegation from Can Tho city People’s Committee on the construction of the Khmer Theravada Buddhist Institute.
Attending the working meeting included Venerable Secretary of the VBS Executive Council Thích Đức Thiện, Vice Chairman of Can Tho city People’s Committee Lê Văn Tâm and Director of Department Affairs under the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Bùi Hữu Dược.
At the meeting, Vice Chairman Lê Văn Tâm stated that in order to meet the training need for Theravada Buddhist monks and followers in the country, especially the southern provinces, the city People’s Committee has agreed to hand over 6.7 hectares of land to the VBS for building the Khmer Buddhist Institute. He also informed that the city would firstly support the ground clearance for handing over of 2.3 hectares to the VBS.
During the working session, Venerable Thích Đức Thiện expressed thanks to the city authorities for their attention and support extended to the VBS on the construction of the training institution for Khmer Buddhist dignitaries and followers.
