The 2nd congress of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Chapter in Tuyen Quang province was held on April 5.
Attending the congress included Most Venerable Vice Chairman of the VBS Executive Council Thích Thanh Nhiễu, Most Venerable Vice Chairman of the VBS Executive Council cum Chairman of the Tuyen Quang provincial VBS Executive Committee, and 420 delegates representing monks, nuns and followers in the locality.
Distinguished guests at the event included Vice President of the Central Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Hà Thị Khiết, Chairwoman of the provincial Party Committee's Commission for Mass Mobilization Triệu Thị Lún, and representative leaders from the Government Committee for Religious Affairs and the Northwest Steering Committee.
The congress discussed results of social, religious activities of the Buddhist Chapter in the province in the first term (2012-2017) and approved working plans for next term. Accordingly, Buddhist dignitaries and followers in the province were asked to actively engage in social and charitable activities in the locality.
The one-day event elected 27 members to the new-term VBS Executive Committee in the province for 2017 – 2022 tenure with Most Venerable Thích Gia Quang reelected as the Committee Chairman.
On this occasion, the provincial VBS Executive Committee was awarded a certificate of merit by the Central VBS for outstanding achievements in Buddhist affairs. Local authorities also presented certificates of merit to one Buddhist group and 15 individuals for social contributions over the past term.
