The celebrating week of the Buddha’s Birthday 2019 (B.E.2563) started on May 12 at Vinh Trang pagoda in Tien Giang province’s My Tho city.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Most Venerable Chairman of the provincial Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Executive Committee Thích Huệ Minh and attended by members of the provincial Executive Committee, representatives of the VBS executive board from cities and districts in the province, and over 300 Buddhists in the locality.
Local guests at the event included Head of the provincial Party Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilization Trần Long Thôn, Vice Chairman of the Committee for Religious Affairs Trần Văn Khuê and Vice Chairwoman of the city People’s Committee Nguyễn Thị Bé.
According to Most Venerable Thích Huệ Minh, the main celebration of Buddha’s Birthday 2019 will take place on May 18 at the office of the VBS Chapter in the province. Before that, the VBS district-level executive boards in the locality would organize seminars, preaching and contests as well as social and charitable programs for supporting disadvantaged people in the locality.
