The 2nd congress of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Chapter in Son La province was successfully held on October 15.
Attending the congress were Most Venerable Vice Presidents of VBS Executive Council Thích Thanh Nhiễu and Thích Gia Quang, and about 350 delegates representing over 7,000 Buddhists in the locality.
The one-day event elected 55 members to the VBS’s Executive Committee in the province for the 2017 – 2022 tenure with Senior Venerable Thích Thanh Quyết reelected as the Committee Chairman.
As reviewed at the congress, currently, Buddhism in Son La province has over 7,000 monks and nuns with one pagoda and 32 Buddhist ashrams and Buddhist followers in the province have contributed VND five billion to social and charitable activities for the past five years.

Right after the congress, the ground-breaking ceremony for Hang Tech Truc Lam pagoda was held for building the second pagoda in Son La province.
