The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Chapter in Hanoi city held the 8th congress for the 2017-2022 term on July 3.
Attending the congress included Most Venerable Standing Member of the VBS Discernment Council Thích Thanh Đàm, Most Venerable President of the VBS Executive Council Thích Thiện Nhơn, and a large number of delegates representing Buddhist monks, nuns and followers in the city.
Distinguished guests at the event included Deputy Secretary of the city Party’s Committee Ngô Thị Thanh Hằng and Vice Chairman of the city People’s Committee Lê Hồng Sơn.
The congress discussed results of social, religious activities of the VBS Chapter in the city in the 7th term (2012-2017) and approved working plans for the next term, as well as elected 75 members to the new-term VBS’s Executive Committee in the city for the 2017 – 2022 tenure with Most Venerable Thích Bảo Nghiêm reelected as the Committee Chairman.
On this occasion, on behalf of the Party and State, Deputy Secretary Ngô Thị Thanh Hằng presented the first-class Labor Medal to the city VBS’s Executive Committee and the third-class Labor Medal to Most Venerable Thích Bảo Nghiêm for practical contributions to socio-economic development in the city.
